A round table, where experts discuss the causes of veto laws regarding environmental assessment, will be held on 4th November 2016 at the press centre of the Gorshenin Institute. The discussion is organised in light of the proposals of the Law of Ukraine “On environmental impact assessment” and “On strategic environmental assessment”, which were recently adopted by Parliament. Institutes, which evaluate environmental impacts and strategic environmental assessment should be aligned, among others, with the Aarhus Convention on Access to Information, Public Participation in Decision-making and Access to Justice in Environmental Matters. Experts and lawmakers will provide explanations regarding the procedures for revision of laws and for further consideration by Parliament. Information will also be provided on the international obligations to introduce mechanisms for environmental impact assessment and strategic environmental assessment, and the consequences of non-compliance.
