The OSCE Centre in Almaty and the Kazakhstan Business Council for Sustainable Development is organizing training for entrepreneurs on an international protocol that, once ratified by Kazakhstan, is expected to reduce the level of pollution in the country.

The training on the Protocol on Pollutant Release and Transfer of Registers aims to raise awareness about the protocol among the business community and to take first steps toward developing a national register on pollutant release and transfers.
Participants also will learn more about the environmental accounting system in Kazakhstan and have an opportunity to comment on the development of Kazakhstan's protocol system. The training will highlight the protocol's potential benefits to the Kazakhstani government, industry and general public.
The protocol is the first legally binding international instrument on pollutant release and transfer registers. It aims to enhance public access to information through the establishment of nationwide pollutant release and transfer registers. The treaty, signed by 37 countries but ratified only by Luxembourg, is set to enter into force after the 16th ratification. Kazakhstan has yet to sign the document, but intends to sign and ratify it.
Media representatives are invited to the opening of the training on 27 February 2006 at 09:30 at the address: Almaty, 32 Abai ave. (Kazgidromet building), conference hall.
