New Ukrainian regulation requires labeling of GMO products

A regulation adopted by the Government of Ukraine requiring the labeling of food products containing genetically modified organisms (GMO) has entered into force. The "Regulation on the labeling of food products containing GMO or produced from materials containing GMO" containing materials requires that all food products containing GMO should be labeled or, in case they are not, be removed from the market. 

The information related to GMO labeling is expected to "give the full right to the people to make a deliberate choice of the food products", according to Ms. Nataliya Filipova, Ukrainian National Focal Point to the Aarhus Convention.

 

The Regulation was adopted by the Ukraine Council of Ministries on 13 May 2009.
