Minister for Environmental Protection Aitkul Samakovaon issued an edict establishing the National Coordination Team on 15 November 2005.  Representatives of the key government agencies and ministries, the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Center in Almaty and nongovernmental organizations will take part in the National Coordination Team. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

It is expected that the National Coordination Team will perform the following tasks:

- Preparation of a report to the Government on institutional framework and statistical reporting requirements needed to ratify the PRTR Protocol;

- Preparation of a project proposal on establisment of a national PRTR; and

- Incorporation of PRTR requirements into the draft national Environmental Code.

Establishment of the National Coordination Team on the preparatory process on ratification of the PRTR Protocol was one of the recommendations of the workshop on the PRTR Protocol, held 3-4 September 2005, in Borovoye, Kazakhstan.  The workshop had been organized by the OSCE Centre in Almaty in close cooperation with the Ministry of Environment of Kazakhstan.
