Members of the public intending to speak about the Aarhus Convention have not received word on Nevsky Ecological Congress

"Big business and government are not interested in Russia's accession to the Aarhus Convention", - said the representatives of the "Green Alliance" a senior official of RSPP. In this case, it is more logical than the silence of a recognized means to resolve environmental conflicts in the status event, sponsored by big business (among which - known throughout the country polluters). The second topic of performance - environmental and human rights special project of the party "Green Alliance", "Green Tribunal" - it seems, is also a sore spot for the corporate lobby. After all, statistics turns out that the "Green Tribunal" in most cases you have to struggle with industry, whose dereliction of duty and desire to save lead to environmental catastrophes.

The UN Convention "On Access to Information, Public Participation in Decision-making and Access to Justice in Environmental Matters", better known as the Aarhus Convention - not a panacea for environmental conflicts. However, this is a powerful international instrument for protecting the environmental rights of citizens, with the adoption of conservation activities that goes to a new level. Russian Federation - the only European country not to join.

In June 2011, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev instructed to consider ratifying it, and now the highest state court completes the process of harmonization of documents required for submission to the State Duma on Russia's accession to the Aarhus Convention. In the community of environmental lawyers spread opinion that the question of ratification almost resolved. What happened on the Nevsky Environmental Forum, shows that this is not the case.

In the near future Chairman of the "Green Alliance" Gleb Fetisov sent an open letter on the matter to the Chairman of the Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko. We intend to continue to advocate for the adoption of this important international instrument, despite the opposition of the corporate lobby.
