The Maltese Nationalist Party has accused the Environment and Resources Authority of intentionally blocking the process of a serious and effective public consultation regarding the Integrated Prevention and Pollution Control (IPPC) application of a power station and a LNG tanker. The IPPC assesses the whole environmental performance of plants and is needed in order to put installations like power stations and large chemical plants into operation. The public consultation period for the IPPC regarding the Delimara power station and the LNG tanker is to last from 19th October until 17th November. According to the opposition leader Busuttil, a “ridiculous” timeframe which does not allow for serious and effective public consultation as required by the Seveso Directive and the Aarhus Convention.
