The Kazakh Ministry of Environment and other key government agencies, deputies to the Parliament, and civil society, business and expert stakeholders will attend a workshop aimed at raising awareness of the requirements of the Kiev Protocol on Pollutant Release and Transfer Registers to the Aarhus Convention, in Borovoe, Kazakhstan, 3-4 September 2005.
The workshop marks the first meeting in Central Asia devoted to pollutant release and transfer registers. The workshop will provide a preliminary assessment of the possibilities of the Republic of Kazakhstan to participate in this novel international Right-to-Know agreement.
Were Kazakhstan to accede to the Kiev Protocol, it could become the first country to join the instrument following its adoption by 36 countries and the European Community in May 2003.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
