After the third postponement, the Regional Administrative Tribunal (TAR) in Abruzzo rejected the appeal filed by the company Tamburro Remo against the Province of L'Aquila for the annulment of the decision prohibiting the continuation of activities for the recovery of waste from the company. The Tribunal based its decision on the precautionary principle in environmental matters. The decision of the Tribunal for the removal of 17,000 tons of waste, deposited in "Le Grottelle" in the Municipality of Collelongo, in order to preserve the integrity of the aquifer located in the vicinity has direct effect. In addition, the municipal secretary of Collelongo, has launched an administrative procedure to verify the truthfulness of the statements made by Remo Tamburro in 2014 to obtain authorization for the project. During this procedure, the company stated, contrary to what is now known, that the quarry was not part of the Abruzzo National Park. According to the President of WWF Abruzzo Montano, this environmental emergency could have been avoided through the responsible involvement of citizens and environmental groups in the decision-making process, as stipulated by the Aarhus Convention.
