The German Federal Cabinet has today decided upon a package of laws addressing public participation, the environment and the Aarhus Convention. Adoption of the package is a precondition for "the imminent ratification of the Convention", according to a statement issued by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety. The German Bundestag and Bundesrat must still agree on the bills, before the Convention can be ratified formally.
Germany signed the Convention on 21 December 1998.
