Complete set of Aarhus Convention national implementation reports now available

Date published:

Article 10, paragraph 2, of the Convention requires the Parties at their meetings to keep under continuous review the implementation of the Convention on the basis of regular reporting by the Parties.  The Meeting of the Parties, through Decision I/8, elaborated on this requirement and agreed upon procedures for reporting and upon the reporting format itself.

For the second Meeting of the Parties, each Party had been requested to submit a National Implementation Report covering practical experience with implementing the Convention in their country.  All but four Parties did so in time for review at the May 2005 meeting.

On the basis of the timely submission of national implementation reports, the Aarhus Convention secretariat produced a Synthesis Report on the Status of Implementation.

At their second meeting, the Parties to the Aarhus Convention called upon all States that were Parties at the time of the deadline that failed to submit such reports to the secretariat to do so by 15 September 2005, for subsequent consideration, inter alia, by the Compliance Committee. Subsequently, four additional reports were received in 2005.

The full set of these implementation reports is now available in English on the Aarhus Convention website: http://www.unece.org/env/pp/reports%20implementation.htm.

Many are also available in French and Russian, or in national languages.
