Aarhus Compliance Committee resumes its work

Date published:

At its ninth meeting, the Compliance Committee of the Aarhus Convention is expected to consider, in accordance with the relevant procedures, any submission made by a Party concerning another Party’s compliance with its obligations under the Convention and any communications received from the public.

The Committee will discuss the content of communication ACCC/C/2005/11, which concerns the standing of NGOs under Belgium legislation and case law.  The communication alleges that public interest organizations are unfairly denied access to a procedure before a court of law because they cannot prove that they suffer a direct and personal harm.

The Committee is also expected to finalize and adopt its findings and, as appropriate, recommendations with regard to communications ACCC/C/2004/06 involving the Republic of Kazakhstan and ACCC/C/2004/08 involving the Republic of Armenia.
